Airdrop

An airdrop is when a protocol sends tokens directly to wallet addresses, usually to bootstrap community ownership, reward early users, or distribute governance rights. Some airdrops are retroactive — rewarding wallets that interacted with a protocol before a cutoff date. Airdrops have been used as both a genuine decentralization mechanism and a marketing tool; the value of received tokens varies enormously based on project fundamentals.
