In crypto markets, a whale is an entity — individual, fund, or exchange — holding a position large enough to move price when they transact. Whale movements are closely tracked on-chain because large transfers to exchanges can signal intent to sell, while accumulation from exchanges suggests buying. On-chain analytics tools like Nansen and Arkham specialize in labeling whale wallets and tracking their behavior.
