Seed Phrase

A human-readable list of 12–24 words that encodes a wallet's private key and can be used to restore access.

A seed phrase (mnemonic phrase) is a standardized encoding of a wallet's master private key into 12 or 24 common English words, making it easier to record and restore than a raw key. Anyone who obtains a seed phrase gains complete, irrevocable control of all wallets derived from it. It must be stored offline in a secure physical location — never digitally or in cloud storage. Most phishing attacks ultimately aim to steal seed phrases.
